  • rebuild parts ques

ok this is prob a small rebuild. but last week i found the choc milk situation in my oil and oil in my coolant. replaced the gaskets and it still sounded like crap so i didnt run it anymore.
sounded like the antifreeze was in the oil a little longer than i thought and ate away the bearings.

now my question is, is there anywhere besides the dealership i can pick the bearings up. and should i replace the lifters or are they safe and what else should i replace while im going that far down. the engine has 94k on it. so anything i can replace now to save me down the road will help. would anyone have a part number for the bearings gmparts is kinda confusing on the way they have them listed.

You should get a new crank or have that one turned down if you think the bearings are crapped out pretty good. You might have scuffing on the journals. Maybe not and you are lucky but I would plan on it till its apart at this point. Ebay has bearings. I have bearings for that matter. Need to know what size though (stock, .010, .020, .030).

Lifters shouldn't be bad. Id only get new ones if I was getting a new cam and even then its not necessary because they are roller.

Replace the oil pump drive o ring with the high temp brown version. Get the metal lower intake gaskets as well.

wont know about the crank till i get an engine stand later this week. i dont think they crapped out too bad just didnt sound good for the minute it ran. prob go with the stock size unless theres a reason to go different.

ok i just thought of something else. would i benefit from making it a stroker motor and what would be the best crank to use. figure while i hae it apart and out of the car might as well do some performance things to it.

found some main bearings on ebay for 26 shipped the auction says there for the 2.8 but gmpartsdirect lists them from 86 to 2003
they got 94-03 listed for the grand am and the engine is from a 99 grand am so according to this they will fit. didnt but them yet wanted to make sure they were good and would ffit. gm part number.89017239 became 12591252

I have standard size bearings here in a box. Mains and rods. I will probably never need them so if you do need standard size let me know.
Not sure on the stroker crank other than modifying the 3500 crank and going custom pistons with it.

havent had a chance to rip her open yet.

but looking around for parts i found this site that sells cams i see a couple that might work

are there any other cranks that would work with the 3400. cant think of the other engines off hand.
