would it be better to change the cam bearings when you put in a new/regrind cam, or do they not wear enough to warrant changing

my engine has 170k miles on it right now

Measure them and see what teh clearances are. That is the only way to know. You also need to look for scuffs and defects.

I would definetly change out 170k bearings. You're only looking at ~$30 for bearing install and I think about the same to buy them. You might as well.

I assume the engine is out and dismantled? I looked around for a cam bearing removal/install tool, all I found were ones for SBC's, unless those could be used too.

i think proform has a removal tool that will work for the sbc and i think v6s as well. its in the car right now. but when i get the cam in, ill take it out to change the bearings because you have to take out the rear freeze plug to get to the back bearing

Cam bearings for a 660 are the same internal and external diameter. SBC bearings are wider and offer more bearing surface.
