  • 3.1MPFI>HEADGASKET DONE>Now rough idle,noVacuum...

Ok do my girls 90z24 needed her head gasket done. Last night I tore the engine down, and this morning I put it all back together. All was fine until I went to start it. Here's what I got...

    Car starts up fine

    Idle is a little rough

Loud popping noise coming from the engine bay on idle

No vacuum, or VERY little vacuum

If I press the throttle even the slightest bit, the engine will rev a lot, really fast

I'm also getting a code 33, which is the MAP sensor. I'm assuming I'm getting this code because of the lack of vacuum

I have checked the vacuum lines

I did a compression check on all 6 cylinders, every cylinder was dead on 190psi give or take 2psi

I did a coolant pressure test and that came out fine. I let it sit pressurized to 20psi for about 10-15 minutes and when I came back to the car, the needle was still in the same spot.

Some people have said I put the pushrods in wrong...When I pulled the pushrods and rockers, I put them in a box with holes for each pushrod to make sure they went in the same place they came from. Also if the pushrods were installed in the wrong spot...The engine wouldnt build compression right?

I made a post on www.v6z24.com and didn't get much help so far. The post can be viewed here. http://v6z24.com/jbodyforum/viewtopic.php?t=88623

I'm hoping to have an answer so I can fix it tomorrow.

    Thanks for all your help!

Question...If I over-torqued the LIM, would that cause this huge vacuum leak?

if you overtorqued it so much that it broke the plastic gasket then yes. To make sure its not a vacume line spray over the lines and engine with starting fluid while the engine is running, if it revs up suddenly youve got an external vacume leak.

you can also get a vacume guage/one person brake fluid kit, and build vacume with it and see if you can hear it(with the engine off)

Is the brake booster line connected? Thats the biggest vac line, that might cause such a large leak.
