  • new fuel rail results and do I need a CSI?

Got a rail from the junkyard with the regulator. Pulled fuel lines out into the open on my car, installed spare injectors into rail and hooked up to lines. It's sitting on my radiator at the moment.

    42 priming
    38 once pump stops
    30 after 11 minutes
    26 after 20 minutes
    25 after 30 minutes
    21 after 50 minutes

I just noticed one injector is leaking a tad, so that's probably where the pressure is going. There's also a dampness in the dirt around the pressure test valve that's spreading very very slowly I think.

I didn't realize until the rail was most of the way off that it didn't have the cold start injector system. It was getting dark and I had a headache, etc etc.

Anyway, I figure I can run it without it, but how hard do you think it will be to start? I'd like to be sure it will start at all before I go to the work of switching the injectors and installing it.

Or should I go back and look for a different rail.

I've never seen a cold start injector system... it was -10F the other night and my 3.1 started fine with 13 yr old injectors.. haha

the injector sprays fuel into the intake automaticly before u crak the motor. kinda like pumping the gass and the purpose of the choke on a carb vehicle. to add more fuel for easeir starts. if i were u i would get a different rail. i dont know how much difference it would make. sry, u might want to got through another head ache.

My original MAF system had a cold-start injector. (1985 2.8 MPFI) Real crummy setup with extra wiring and thermo-time switch. The engine would start without it but it didn't start nearly as smoothly or as quickly. This was in moderate cool wether. I never tried to use without it in extremely cold wether.
It would spray during cranking (powered off the starter S circuit) but only for a monent and that moment was shorter the hotter the engine was, until at operating temp, it wouldn't spray at all.
After switching to speed-density, the cold-start injector was removed as this ECM (1226869) has internally-programmed cranking AFR and cold-start enrichment.

^^ that's what i was thinking. IIRC during startup my injectors shoot a little extra in there, also it runs pretty rich untill the o2 gets warm. I have a vid of my 91Z starting in -40F somewhere, turns over slow but fires right up...

          I'm using the '7730 ECM
