  • Puffs black when cold

Ok, I recently put a 62mm TB on. Idle relearned and ran great except for that pesky off idle hesitation got worse. For the hell of it, I adjusted the idle set screw to open the blade a tad. Redid the idle relearn...ran great with virtually no more hesitation!! Much better than stock. A few starts later it now puffs black out the muffler for about 30-40 secs then clears out. It does this ONLY after sitting 8 or more hours when the temp outside is 55 degrees or colder. 60 or warmer, it seems like it wants to run rich and chug but dosen't. I have tried putting the idle setting back where it was, disconected the batt, and idle relearned again. Still have the cold rich prob. Changed MAP and checked vac lines. No change. Discovered my cruise control quit working too--related? I hate to wash the cylinders down with gas on a cold start. I ask what the hell?!!! I could just put up with it, but I know something's not right and I can't live with it. Thanks guys!

I am having the same problem with my 97 sunfire. I put exhaust on it and ever since I can stand it. I have to clean the tips every 2 days. I changed the plugs and there are no wire. Maybe the pcv. I am not sure. also it has a slight hesitation in first gear.

Is your fan constantly on? check the coolant temp plug.
              This is an odd problem.
              No DTC's?

Are you using you stock sensors in your new tb? If not, maybe try that?

So when you did this you MADE SURE you didn't bump the fuel regulator's vacuum line off or anything like that, right?

                      Just checking.

thought about that too. checked at the TB-- those 3 lines...the 2 smaller ones held vacuum. i know the other is for the CCP. what would happen if the diaphram in the fuel regulator were to blow? although i have 36#'s at idle...

It would leak out into that vacuum line.

Oh and that would cause you to run rich since it cannot regulate properly.
