  • rpm problem

i have been having a problem with my 1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1l for a little while and its getting worse now so i need some help. my car will randomly start having a problem idleing and will sometimes stall and usually when this happens when my car is above 5 mph the car stays at 2000rpm no matter what and it kinda just costantly accelerates then below 5 mph the bad idle kicks in and it bouces from almost no rpm to 1000 rpm...if i let it idle like this for any length of time a code saying map voltage high comes on but i already replace that sensor so its not that and now there is a code saying running rich. i can not figure this out at all if there are any ideas let me know.

    sounds like a vacuum leak.
i have a 93 gp, had a 3.1 in it before the swap
and it ran like that... had a big vacuum leak and bad coil
    hows your tps sensor?

how do i check the tps? im pretty sure its not a vacuum leak because it is to random for that i believe. and i sprayed everything down with brake cleaner to see if it changed the idle and it didnt do anything...if it was a bad coil would it act irratic like this i thought it owuld be more consistant if it was a coil or a vacuum leak.

coils can be erratic too when going bad. has the ecm lost power at anytime recently? my idle fluctuated when i lost power to the ecm. had to do an idle relearn that fixed the prob. check the wiring to the map. if it's running rich it can be the map or the wiring to the map. i've unplugge the vac source from the map and the car chugged black out the muffler.
