  • bent valve update

I tore the head off and the valve was bent. there is no damage to my piston though. To get the head off there was a bracket that goes from the motor mout to the head and then to the block. I cut the piece of the bracket that waws in the way. i didnt see a major need for the piece, at least i hope not. I ordered all new lifters and valve seals, and gaskets obviuosly. Any suggestions?

Yeah, I read that part, then I kept reading...

i didnt see a major need for the piece, at least i hope not.
My mouth dropped open, and then a giggle came out. Then I shut it again and decided to wait to see other peoples' reaction. I'm sure others will have similar reactions. Just amazing...

hmmm.....interesting way of taking the heads off. The only thing that I can think of that you could be talking about (besides one of the front motor mounts) is the bracket that holds a coolant line to head and block on the driver's side of the rear head. I really hope that's what your talking about.

no it is a the bracket that goes from the aluminum bracket on the side of the engine with the belt. it connects the aluminim bracket to the block. but a part of the bracket goes to the lower left bolt on the front head (if you are looking at the car from the front).the bracket is thick cast, so i would imagine that the conection from the aluminum bracket and the to points on the block will hold just fine. plus there is another bracket that connects the side of the head to the aluminum bracket, which has the aluminum piece that connest to the motor mount bolted to it. (the upper motor mount)

the bolt also would not come out. it was a torques head bolt. we used a large rachet and pb blaster. the bolt wouldnt budge. not to mention even if we got the bolt out we still had to remove the whole bracket but the bolt was not gonna move. we broke one bit (craftsman) and bent another, cutting was the only solution. we coulndt heat it because hoses and platics, also it could warp the aluminum head.

the red is were i cut, the green is the bracket, the yellow is the other bracket i mentioned that will also provide more strenght. i know its kinda hard to see but if you know the engine youll understand. keep in mind grand prix's and luminas don't use these brackets.

I would be VERY carefull using that cookie wheel. I know a few bad turn outs from a friend using a cookie. I personally use a plastic bristle wheel.
