  • A/C is only cold on passgener side?? 02 Impala.

My friends 3400 02 impala is only cold ac on the passengers side. It blows hard on both sides, but the passenger side is cold and not the drivers side. Now it totally stoped getting cold on the drivers side. He doesn't have dual climate control.

Only thing I can think of is perhaps half of the evaporator coil is blocked with debris or there is a flap/door that's failed and is directing the wrong air towards the drivers side.

Anyone else ever had something similar? Maybe somene can point out what it was?

hmm thats odd, when you change to defrost and all the other controls does it change, you might have a vaccum line disconnected and it didnt fully switch over or something, your probably gonna have to take it apart and look, i doubt that the evap core is plugged or it would probably freeze up and the passenger side wouldnt blow cold either.

yeah I'm leaning more to flapper door malfunction. It seems like it wouldn't be under the hood since it's only affecting partialy in the cabin, so that means crawing under the dash ugh.

What I was thinking about the evap core was more along the lines of maybe some filter foam blocking it on the inside, but that would reduce air flow too, which is not the case.

After my car is back together Im going to fix his EGR, put in new plugs since his doesn't want to fire over right away and they need changing, and trouble shoot his a/c. Just checking here first incase it's a common problem that someone has fixed before and knows where to point me to...

if the filter was plugged, the AC would freeze up. it would blow cool, but not cold. hope you find the problem

Yup, I just don't know where to start looking. Unless someone has had it happen before on their impala and says look "here"..

right, I'm guessign the newer cars still use vacuum. I know other brands don't, but perhaps GM still uses vacuum.
