    What's the prize?

Sounds like a rod. Maybe even a rocker? Have you pulled the valve covers off yet?

I'd say it's coming from your motor. I'm going to say a piston skirt.... Or there was coolant in the pan and the bearings went. Coolant may have been in there at one point and time... how old/what year motor how many miles was on it?

Did you see any ossociated temp rise with or before the knock?

no temp rise, intake gaskets have about 2K on them, engine has 30K or so.

There is more than 1 knock, it spun a rod bearing and is knocking very hard in the bottom end, after the engine cooled off a little and i started it for that vid the top end started knocking hard too, might be a cam bearing.

i watched the oil pressure drop lower and lower.. it was about a 25 mile drive home from the track and i'm just thankfull it lasted that far.

there is no coolant in the oil, i just checked

i think a slow oil pressure drop would be indicative of a bad bearing allowing excess oil out of the journal. this then translates to less oil pressure.

if the pump "quit" then i would think the oil pressure guage would "quit" also showing 0 oil pressure on the guage and not slowly coming down.

lets wait and see what the actual cause of death is when it gets pulled apart.

Yah, the pressure was still good when i checked after the 1/4 mile run, it just got lower and lower on the highway...

I had originally thought that it was really low on oil or something, but it was only less than 1qt low.. the gen2 oil filter adapter was leaking again.

                Maybe some carnage pics tonight...

Why does everyone swap over their gen2 oil filter adapter? Why not just leave stock gen3? I've never understood that.

My stock gen3 is easy to get to....

I had one from a 95 3100 but i had to relocate the OPSU due to the headers... so the gen2 adapter was the logical choice

oh I see. IIRC my OPSU is into the block not the oil adapter...

Maybe so much clearence in the rod bearing, it's causing the piston to hit the head.

What is the logic behind continuing to start, run, and drive cars with knocking and overheating engines in this country? It wuold greatly limit the damage to NOT do that. Could you please explain?

BTW, I have heard what sounds like a "top-end knock" from collapsed lifters, due either to contamination of the lifter or a lack of oil pressure.

I guess because if you can get a whole new 3400 for like 350 bucks, then that's cheaper than rebuilding an engine to fix a broken part, as even if the part is cheap, all the gaskets are not!
