Because a machine shop is a place that rebuilds engines... ???
It kind of scares me that you are looking for an engine rebuild kit but you don't know what a machine shop is. Are you planning on doing the rebuild yourself? Have you ever done significant work to an engine? I'm not trying to be rude, but it seems like you may be getting in over your head...-Brad-

no, i've rebuilt engines before. i just didn't draw the conclusion for some reason. i said dealership because they rebuild engines too, and i also work in the service department so i can get discounts.
when i think of machine shops i think of a place that makes parts, not the engine rebuilding persuasion. but never mind that, no one knows of a website that sells rebuild kits?

Found the problem! it seems a little insane, but i found a 1/8 inch ball bearing in the #3 cylinder! it destroyed my piston, and cylinder head. luckily i have a second 2.8 that i could get all the parts off. i spent a little over $200 to get the engine going again. it's all back together and runs great!
No Spun bearings!!!
