  • 3400 Equinox Plenum Differences (with pics)

A few weeks ago I was looking around on ebay and came across an engine for a 3400 Equinox which sparked a little interest. Every picture that I saw showed the engine with the plastic "3400" cover, so I was never able to see what the plenum looked like. Although the TB is on the wrong side, the manifolds are somewhat reversable (with the LIM off the car the plenum can be flip flopped).

I decided to take a risk and buy a 3400 equinox plenum .... here are the not so good results. However the good news is it only cost me $10 for return shipping to the salvage dealer.

Manifold sits too high for the hood to close on my 2001 Grand Am

With the TB facing the way the original N-body TB faces, the back corner hit the PS pump tank.

    Too Tall

Please feel free to add any other know differences on the Equinox 3400 engine. I am very curious about the cam as the cam has a different part number than the 3400 & 3500 cam which both share the same part #. I am wondering if there are different specs on the Nox cam.

Wow cool. Is the Equinox rated with more power? I'm guessing that plenum has good flow since the TB neck comes down into the center. Same concept as the 3500 plenum, only even better approach.

What did the inside look like? All hollow space? Pretty thick/tall even without the TB neck.

Looks like 65mm TB right? Electronic too I bet.

Thanks for sharing! Cool that you could return it. Maybe in a fiero the plenum would fit...

You are about a year or so late... Although I didn't have as many pics as you. So sure.. thanks.

I'm sure if you search for Equinox, you'll find some discussions on the engine from awhile back (including my pic even, possibly).

Honestly, I searched all over and couldn't find any pics. I just searched again and still nothing.

        Any idea about the cam?

Probably not worth swapping. Get a re-grind/etc. If it's any different, it's probably to shift torque lower.

Well, I looked around and didn't find them either. Then I looked in my old emails and found the zip file I recieved from a guy with a bunch of pics of one. I knew I had them, I just thought I had posted them. Oh well....
