  • test drove an Impala - 3400 question

i test drove a 2001 base model Impala yesterday. according to the LIM it has a 2000 engine. the sticker in the door jamb says the car was produced 5/01. is it likely the engine has been replaced? or was it produced early enough in 2001 that it just got a leftover 2000 3400 engine?

    thanks

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are really worried get a carfax and see if the motor was replaced... I'm sure GM has a stock of motors sitting and puts them in cars until they use up the batch. Then make more. I doubt they build each motor along side each car...

My 3400 LIM doesn't have a date on it. But that's because it's from a 97 van probably.

I just saw a '01 Monte on ebay with 00 on the LIM manifold. Also I'm not sure, but I think my sister's '02 GP 3100 has the same "00" numbers on it. Didn't something change in 2003?

they got coated piston skirts to prevent piston slap, that's it.
