  • What will a stock 3400 GA run (need answer fast)!!!

There is a guy around here talking shit about his totally stock 2004 Grand Am with the 3400, it isn't a GT. I need to know what kind of times they run stock. He wants to race me in my 5 speed Z34. I would kill him if my car was running right, but it isn't. I can run a 16.6 all the time. Do you think he could take me? I think he could that is why i didnt race him tonight. This would be from around a 20mph roll.

Proably take you. The GA is a bit heavier than my car by a couple hundred lbs, even though they have a smaller trans than mine. I have less hp too but very close to stock I ran a 16 flat in the 1/4 in august heat. Now I have a new O2 sensor, etc and little bitty mods that I can feel a big difference.

I'd say he could run a low 16, and if the car is a freak dip into the 15's. Either way he's not going to be slower than a 16.6!!

Man get your car running better!! It's also harder to run a manual in the 1/4 too, so that my account for your high 1/4...

No, my shifting isnt the problem. I've described what the car is doing and what the problem might be in the "Track Talk" section.

Supposedly, a stock 5th gen GAGT clocked 15.9

Not sure who ran the car (GM, MotorTrend, Car & Driver, etc.), what the track conditions were, waht track, etc. -- but that's the only stock time I've ever seen listed on sites.

IMO, though, mid 16's - low 17's. Either way if you run a consistent 16.6, it'll be close.

A lot of 3100 cars people say 17's or mid 16's. I bet might could of dipped into the 15's stock if I had it tuned up well, or when it was new. Especially if it was cooler weather. But then again I've thought my car ran better than others. Pulling on cars I shouldn't, and racing other cars identical to mine and litteraly leaving them like they are standing still.

I'm banking on the grand am still though, unless you catch him stuck in 2nd or something, but even then they are geared lower than my trans, so.. from a 20mph roll he would probably be close to 3k or downshift there and be right at the powerband. (3100/3400 start to pull really hard at 3,000rpm).

I wouldn't bet any money, but it would be fun to see who won.. Post the results if you do race, but be careful.

A stock GA in good running order is a 15.6-15.9 sec. car with a decent driver. I can tell you that a Stock GA dynos approx 143 HP at the wheels.

And i should be around 175ish(i think) at the wheels. I still am clueless on what is wrong.

Preciate all the good info. I have decided not to race him though because i need to figure out what in the hell is causing my car to be slow as hell. I will spend my $$$ on having the timing, compression, and ignition systems checked.
