  • 3.1 Intake Manifold?

first let me tell you what im trying to do.I have an off-road desert sandrail and I want to put a chevy v-6 in it.I have a 3.1L motor,MPFI, alum. heads etc.... I want to run a carb instead of fuel injection, for simplicity reasons. my question is. does such a manifold exist to do this? do I have to change to cast iron heads? will a 2.8L intake manifold from edelbrock work on a 3.1L?
    thanks

Im not aware of an aluminum head carb setup. For simplicity you should just get a carb motor if thats how you wanna go about it. It shouldn't be that hard to put the FI stuff on there though, especially if its all stock anyway.

Worst descision ever. Carbs absoutly suck ass for anything off road. If you are going to be tossing this rail through the sand then you will have nothing but floods and stalls from a carb. With the fuel in the float bowl sloshing around like crazy fuel metering will be all over the place.

Run the EFI man. You will never stop having fun. Also the DIS ignition would be pretty much impervious to dust and much mroe resistant to water than a distributor ignition.

but if you really wanted to mount a carb to a 3.1 plenum, just buy one of those 1" aluminium spacers and have it welded to the plenum, cut out the middle, seal off the old TB port and you're GTG

just grab a wiring harness/ecm from a 90-94 cavalier/sunbird with a 3.1l. itll all plug in. the worst part of it all will be the fuel delivery, and thats not to hard. you will wither need to make an intank pump setup work, or go with a high pressure external fuel pump. you will need to make steel lines up (3/8" feed, 5/16" return) as the fuel system runs 43.5psi, and the pumps are capable of 80 psi.

you are way better off with the efi. you never need to worry about keeping the carb setup right, or going up a steep hill and stalling, or over big bumps and having issues. and as was already stated, the dis ignition is impervious to dirt and sand.

if your still stuck on a carb, you are gonna have to get a 3.1l from a blazer/camaro/firebird and swap the carb and intake on, aswell as an hei distributor, or go with an early 80s 2.8l with carb and no cumputer to controll timing.
