  • Possible bad intake hose?

Like the topic says, I think my intake hose is bad, but I'm not sure. Both times that I have taken my intake apart (from the MAF, through the airbox, never touching the throttle body), the hose has just fallen right off of the throttle body. I noticed some kind of solid black leftovers, possibly from the tube, stuck to the TB. Is that an indication of a bad intake hose? If it is, then I won't bother fabbing my own CAI and just buy one ready to install from MMS. Also, the other day I noticed that the vacuum line that connects to the hose just before the TB was not completely connected to the hose, as a solid amount of hand pressure "snapped" it into place. Not sure if it was always like that or if it happened while messing with the intake, but would that loose vaccuum line cause any problems? It was in the intake, just not snapped completely into place. Thanks! Apologies in advance if I sound like a newb, cause I am

You dont have the tube clamped to the throttlebody? That should take care of it. Otherwise, the tube sounds bad to me but I have never heard of the intake tube going bad like that.

That vacuum line isn't a vacuum line. Its the PCV line for the valve cover to get fresh air. Its good to have it secure but its not going to cause major issues if its just setting there. You could get dirt sucked in though which is about the only real issue from that.

Cold air intakes are nice but I never understand why someone would pay that much money for a tube and a filter. If its the one im thinking of, he uses some ribbed extension that goes down the front. Some people have lost 20+ lbs of torque with a cone filter setup vs the stock air box. You may want to consider modifying the air box a little and keeping that setup. I switch back to the box vs a cone filter on my DOHC without noticing anything at all. Well, my intake temps are a little lower now anyway:P

It seems like the tight squeeze that the big airbox is putting on the hose (pushing it against the throttle body) is all that is keeping the hose on there. After the second time that it fell off (I was messing around with the airbox and pulling it out of the car to see how I can make my own CAI), I tightened it down as much as I could. I figure either the hose is bad, or now that I think about it, the clamp might be bad. I'll pick up another one soon and find out. Heck while I'm at it I'll check the inside of the tube to see if that black material came from it.
