I can get either a 04 or an 05 3500 for $500, now the 04 is from a Malibu, and the 05 is from a G6, which one of these may have the standard crossovery style manifolds so I would be able to either use them or attempt to use them. In other words, what cars are the engines in these pics from.

The G6 motor has 2k on it and the Malibu one has 4k

I'm probably planning on just using the top end because I also have a 05 3400 from a Impala with 4,713 miles on it in my garage waiting to go in the car come spring time, but this 3500 top end is sounding promising power wise.

i know for a fact that the 2004 Malibu 3500 did not have the crossover style manifolds.. both aim straight down.

Well guess what, A 05 Impala 3400 comes with cross over style exhaust manifolds with the 3500 sized ports... It also had the 3500 manifold gaskets on it.

This is a big find for anyone who needs this style manifold and is using a 3500 top end.

I found this out when I took apart my 05 3400.

Against the dinky 3400 port on the head.

Comparison to a 01 3400 manifold gasket I had lying around

I guess I know what manifolds I'll be using when I do my swap.

Interesting. Also, looking at the first picture, is the PCV (or what used to be the PCV) riveted to the valve cover now??

Yes that is correct, I was a little confused on how, if you ever want to, go about changing the PCV valve.

i've been searching for an answer in the forums, and havent found it. i've heard from sharkey that the 3500 heads have a different rocker stud size from the 3400 heads. anyone find this?

also, just to reconfirm that the 3500 crank will fit into the 3400 block?
                got zap-straps?

The 3400 rocker arms changed to 8mm studs in 2003, which carried over to the 3500. So the 03+ 3400 & 3500 rockers are the same.

As far as the crank goes there are several differences and I believe modifications are needed to swap them. Maybe someone can hit on that further.

Yes, the 3500 block is notched in several areas to clear the crank. I can get pics tomorrow...

I had pics... But the drive that had them all crashed a month or so ago. Maybe I can take some tonight when the wife gets home from the movies. Don't really feel like leaving the 3mo old upstairs by herself...
