  • Vin M 3100's

Can anyone list or provide me with a link to a list of all vehicles that came with this engine ?

I'm going to be installing a used 3100 into my '97 Lumina.

I'll also be needing another sedan soon, so I'm wondering whether I should keep my current 3100 (to rebuild and install in said new sedan) or just turn it in for the core refund. Knowing the full spectrum of vehicle choices for a 3100 would help alot. Thanks.

I'm gonna keep it and buy another W body after I get it rebuilt. I've liked this Lumina and I imagine that the Pontiac, Buick, and Olds models are that much nicer...

Anybody care to weigh in on what was the nicest (comfort wise) of the cars that used Vin M 3100's ? I'm looking for a 4 door family sedan really, so I want as much room and comfort as posssible for trips.

            Thanks again,

Grand Prix. Don't care for the Impala. The steering seems to clunk like it's loose after 40-60K miles.

                engine kits

Can anyone recommend a source for a master kit for the VIN M 3100s ?

I bought one from the boneyard from a '96 Grand Am with 103,000 on the odometer. The car was wrecked, so the engine runs well enough to drive, at a minimum.

Northern Auto Parts is the only source I've found online with a ready kit (around $600 for a master kit with pistons). I'm hoping I can buy a master kit without pistons and save some on the kit and the machine work, which would be a few hundred more with a re-bore.

Anyone know what the chances are that I'll be able to get by without a rebore ? How much wear would be typical in these engine at 100,000 ? Is it likely to exceed taper and out of round tolerances ?

                TIA,
