Well, you do mention 04 and earlier... Since the 3500 didn't come out until 04, the earlier could throw a person off.

true, but as far as I know there isint any cars getting the older LX engine this year, I could be wrong about that but when I was at the GM booth at the boston auto show all the 3500s were the LZ engine.

      Fixied my orignal post.

The G6's and Malibu get the LX9. Either way, why swap a 3500 in.

Just make a 3400/3500 hybrid. Bored the 3400 2mm / 0.08" over and put the 3500 heads and intake on. You got a 3500 that will drop in.

Your compression will go up to 9.8 with the 3500 heads. Unless the pistons were changed not the combustion camber size. Then itll go down a bit.

Well, if it wasnt the combustion chamber size and the compression goes up on the 3400, wouldnt we be talking about a bit of a clearance issue?

The piston wont come out of the deck any higher. So it's between the combustion chamber size and the piston dish size. No room. There wouldnt be any clearance issuses.

So if it isn't the combustion chamber size. It can only go down if you use 3400 spec pistons, or go up to 9.8 if you use 3500 pistons.
My money is on the combustion chamber being smaller since it has been reshaped.

Just need to know if 3500 rods are unchanged except for the bearing size. So the 3500 pistons can go onto the 3400 rods. Wont need to get any overbore pistons made.

I'll pass on it. Low redline, mostly low and mid end power, too much displacement for me. There are ways to make more with less.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Peak torque at 2800 RPM? And the G6 GTP coupe I drove only had a 6000 RPM redline. So it makes peak horsepower at redline? That's not right.

                    The wonder of VVT

I thought the redline was at 6250 also. Oh well.

Why is it not right? What's the point of revving an engine higher than it's peak HP--other than to loose power and slow things down? Not to mention wear and tear.

Most of the time thier shift point would be at about 5500 as well, a little computer tuning, some air flow mods and a 6200rpm shift point should be pretty bad ass

We just had a Gtp here at the shop, was putting a system in it to bid for that platform, then sent it back to GM. It had the 6 speed. Other than the car being WAAAAAAY to heavy, sum'b#$%^ gets up and moves pretty good. But honestly, i bet quite a few cars on this forum could whip it's a@#, do to the fact that it is heavy, i don't know what the curb weight is exactly, but it felt every bit of 3300lbs or more.
