  • How Many Miles on your 2.8L

I was currious how many miles you've seen on a 2.8 before a rebuild or swap? the s-10 i've got has 230K on the clock. Previous (one owner) owner says he's never even had the valve cover off, changed the water pump once.

how far have you seen a 2.8L go?

My 2.8 has 160?miles (273,500km to be more exact). From working on the car much of everything is stock. In the 3 years I've had it I've changed the power steering pump/serpentine belt, tranny gasket/filter/fluid (gasket had gone to hell, I doubt tranny was EVER serviced), flushed the rad/block (it kept running green water when I had the hose it it, bugs came out as well.. just plain dirty!).

I don't think the engine or valve covers have ever been cracked open.

    DAMN GOOD CAR!!

      87 celebrity

When i first started working at the station we had an 87 celebrity with a 2.8 in it. It had near 190K miles. We kept trying to blow it up (so we could get a new car to patrol the lots in, it's embarassing driving an old fwd four door with rust flaking off the roof and hood), anyway we drove it for months with the oil pressure light flickering on and off and the temp light lit up like the north star. Never did give out though. I think the university sold it at auction for 300 bucks, Still see it driving around town from time to time, it's a pretty tough sucker :-)

I had EXACTLY 313,368 miles on my 2.8 when I pulled it out. All that had ever been done to it was routine maintence and a tune up when I got it (as well as replacing both the MAP, and the MAF). I will admit that I put a cam in it, but I did that about 7,000 miles before pulling the engine.

When I pulled the engine, the only reason that I went ahead and dropped the 3100 in was because my ORIGINAL NEVER REBUILT tranny was on it's way out. I decided to do everything at once.

My engine had 130,000 on it and it was a shame I pulled it because it was MINT. But sold it for 500 and put in the 3.4L

We just took the engine out of my buddies 1990 Z24 (3.1L) And it was also in MINT shape but in the quest for more power a 3400 is going in.
