  • 2.8/3100 hybrid head gaskets? need cr increase

i went to my local performance machine shop today and was asking where to get a set of thin copper gaskets for my setup and he said no one makes them for a 2.8 or 3.1 ect.. only the 3.4
so we found that felpro makes a copper gasket that is .020 thick and is meant for 2.8/3.1 with the 3.5" bore, they call them "head savers" and they are meant to sandwhich between the block and gasket to decrease compression to reduce detonation when the heads have been decked

anyways, would this be a good idea to use for gaskets, along with the copper gasket spray, that felpro calls blu copper, or something along those lines... i plan on taking .040 off the heads as well

the regular felpro head gaskets are .040 btw

where the heck do you guys get your thin gaskets from :P

We use the .040" gaskets as the "thin ones".

I wouldn't recommend using the head savers for a gasket, you WILL develope sealing problems.

I thnk .020" thick head gasket might be a tad thin, I know the 2.8 isn't a zero deck engine, but it's pretty close, and you will most likely run into piston/head interferance problems, when it's running, especially at higher RPM.

Also, unless this is an all out race ONLY engine, I wouldn't recommend the copper gaskets, they are not meant for street duty.
