Ok I feel pretty stupid for asking this, but I am at a dead end. I installed a new cam in my 94 camaro 3.4, I put it all back together and the thing runs terrible, bearly idles, runs terible rich. I double checked the valve adjustment had the timming chain cover off and checked the timing gears, now my question is I was told you need to align the gears up with marks on the chain guide however I replaced mine and I do not see any marks anyways it was installed with the mark on the cam gear at 6 oclock and the crank gear at twelve oclock so they are lined up with each other, is this correct or did I do this incorrectly, it throws off a code 32, everyone tells me to check my timing........ please help!

    Your cam is in correct.

You cannot change timing on your car.

If your Cam sensor plugged in?

I am guessing they were referring to cam timing rather than ignition timing, anyways heres the whole story, I blew a head gasket, put it all back together and ran fine except for a vacume leak, upper plentum still had gasket material on (I was in a hurry and must have forgotten) Took it back apart I notice I had a colapsed lifter, I put a plunger indicator down a lifter bore and check my lift, My cam was worn badly I replace cam with an edelbrock preformer cam, runs like crap, I pull out cam and purchase a stock replacement cam, still runs like crap, this time I pull out my cam position sensor, there are metal shavings stuck to it, more like paste, I figure thats what the problem was, since metal was stuck to it all the time I wasnt getting a ready, I clean it off and install it, but still runs same, could I need a new sensor? what exactly does a code 32 mean? I read something like it has to do with my ignition i think. Anyways I replaced all the other stuff, when it does run it turns my plugs black, if I am able to drive it, I cannot get any rpms out of it, like it is starving for fuel, checked fuel pressure, replaced filter, injectors, checked my coils, new plugs and wires, I am at a dead end here

Sounds almost as if you have your plugs wires on wrong.

Your cam timing is fine forget about that. Also no cam sensor will not cause such poor running. It will set a code and the ECM will batch fire. No big deal...

I think you have screwed up your firing order.

In your original post you said: "You Didn't See any Marks". Crank & Cam Sprockets should have a round hole indentation close to the top of the teeth on both of the timing sprockets. They're sometimes hard to see in lower light. You have the Crank at 12 /Cam at 6 part right. If you didn't match them up to the Indentations, you could have your Cam Sprocket Timing several degree's Retarded or Advanced meaning your engine will run like crap since your valves will not be closing and opening at the right times. I put a new timing set with chain on my 2.8L V6 a week ago and it runs like a champ. Then i adjusted my ignition timing with a Timing Light, just to make sure it was set properly.
