  • engine starting problem

Well I swapped out my engine and double checked all the hook ups and all. now i goto start it up if it will and the car doesnt even turn half way on?? neither the accesory of coarse. Of coarse i checked my ground connections, connections to the battery, and took the battery to get it tested it was a little under average but was told it had enough amps.

    any ideas??

    RE: engine starting problem

So you are saying if you turn the ignition switch on, nothing works? Or it just won't turn over but the radio and stuff will come on? Kind of confused...

Did you check all the fuses and fusible links? You obviously aren't getting power to the ignition switch, so that would be the first place I would check.

well my buddy and I jumped the starter the engine starts right up its awesome. Now its gotta be the igntion. I thought maybe my alarm disabled the igntion as the engine was started all the lights where blinking. I disconnected it today and still nothing.

We checked the igntion relays, fuel injector relay's, fuel pump relays... and all they are fine.

any ideas on how I could temp get power to the igntion so I can see if its any good or not??

Have you checked the fuses? That's still one thing you haven't checked. And then what about the fusible links?

Did you jump the starter directly off of the battery that's in your car? Or from something else? What did the voltage drop to when you load tested your battery? If the ignition switch was bad, and it was stuck in the "OFF" positioin, you'd think the car wouldnt' start at all.

yes off the battery thats in the car. I also found out the igntion switch was not bad. I can hot wire the car tho. I figure once I intall my leds i'll just take it down to lemmen grand and get a quote to fix it. They will tell me all the parts i need and what needs to be done on a bill qoute. then if its something i can fix I'll do it. Sound like a plan?

Did you check into perhaps the Neutral safety switch (or clutch interlock if 5spd). I know my Olds wont start in N and half the time the switch shorts or something and it wont hold the starter on long enough to crank the motor to the point that it'll start. Or maybe just a loose wire or something to it.
