5 speed DOHCs are a bitch to launch.....power comes on HARD and QUICK.....ever take a look at the dyno charts? Its either bog or wheelspin....sometimes both. BUT when you are able to get it right......you'll run not slow.
You are dead on. My runs were anything but consistent:
With an auto, its easy. Just mash the gas and go! :P I ran a 15.7 hot off the street, then a 15.4, 15.3, and 15.4 again. Too bad my highest trap was on a 15.4 run.

That is no joke. I have been able to run semi-close to consistant in the 92 though, 15.5, 15.6, 15.7 in the same night with 18" rims, brakes that could stop Satan in his tracks, and me with who knows how much stereo equipment and dynamat, lol.
EDIT: the 92 also has a gutted airbox (oh boy!!!), a custom tuned chip, and a K&N (another oh boy!!!).

ah they arn't that hard the first time I drove one was at the track and I got a 2.24 60' and ran a 15.22 and the mph was 89 IIRC would have been a good run if I diden't shift in to 4th, should have held out 3rd. I just had to launch it like my 2.8!
1999 Olds Alero 2.4 to 3500 swap (running). totaled by a honda

9.63@74.36 in the 1/8th
14.30 on slicks! scrapped due to rust!
bone stock with the 3.1 and the trans slipped on the 1-2, my lumina ran an 18.1 with my big ass in it, full of gas.
that is reason #1 i swapped to the dohc.
Wow thats slow! I though my 2.8 was bad
How much time do you think the trans slip took off? I ran 17.9 with spare tire taken out and about 1/2 tank of gas, and no MAF/IAT sensors present :P . I'm sure I'll beat my time this year since my SES light is off now
15.4 on a downhill track. So PROBABLY a 15.6 on a straight track. Only mods are a cone filter,3" DP, flowmaster 40's, and The FFP dogbone. Whoopie...but still not an awful time. and.....
