    why would you guess less? the shorter stroke would probably mean the crank pins overlap more in a 2.8 crank than the 3.1, adding to crank strength. and the greater compression distance of the 2.8 piston vs. the 3.1 would leave more metal in the critical area. i'm willing to bet a 2.8 can hold up to whatever the 3.1 can, if not a little more.

        my engine its a 1st generation of multiport FI this engine is in a cutlass ciera (mexican cutlass) with the th-125 transaxle without lock up

        basically i want to make 280hp but if 250 its safetaly for the engine and the transaxle its fine!!!!!!

          the first generation has iron heads, thats the easyiest way to tell. as far as the weak link your tranny will probably give in first IMO.
