iron heads on an M 3100

Does anyone know if the block was modified from the iron headed engine when the M 3100 aluminum headed engine came out?
I want to use an M block 3100 with iron heads and suitible intake.

I think the best way to answer the questio is, to ask another question:

What vehcile will this be going into?

The reason I ask is there are significant differences between a genI blck and a genIII block, some of which may or may not be of concern to you, depnding on the chassis it's going into.
