  • Front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, bell housings

Does anyone know of any serious compatibility issues in bolting a FWD engine to a RWD bell and xmission.
The cheap junkyards are full of FWD 3100's. No RWD's to be found.
Motor mounts will be a problem but there are plenty of bolts in the front of the engine for mounting.
    Inboard boat motor project!!!

nope, all 60 degree v6 motors use small gm bolt pattern. the only issue you will run into is the starter. a fwd its on the oposite side of a rwd. there is a rwd bellhousing (i beleive its from an 82 2.8l f body) that has starter pockets on either side. if you arent able to find this elusive ballhousing, you can redrill and tap the starter holes onto the other side.

Good lord, if his junkyards are anything like the ones around here, they'll be plentiful. There's more 2.2 S10s than anything around here.

well, not all the 2.2's have removeable bellhousings is the thing, only the T5 equiped ones do, that and if you were thinking about using the NV trans, don't bother, its total poop.
I went and got a WC T5 with the FWD style bell housing to connect to the LQ1, should work out nicely.
