well like the title says, I just picked up my oldest from preschool and as I was sitting at a light my car started ideling funny. the light turned green so I gave it some gas. at the next light I stopped at the red and the car died, so I put it in park and restarted it, then put it in gear and it died again, so I restarted it gassed it and dropped it in gear and started home when i hit another red light and it died again. So I'm hoping it's the fuel filter, I'm gonna go to the store and get a new one.

RE: 3100 stalling
I'd definately go with fuel related, the filter being a likely culprit if it hasn't been changed in awhile.-Brad-

what year is it, how many miles? maybe it has a vacuum modulator thats gone bad. i dont know little about automatics, but i know some have that problem. how does it drive when it does drive? does it jump hard when you put it in gear? I know the torque convertor is like a clutch so if thats not working right it would be sort of like putting a stick in 1st and dumping the clutch while holding the brake on. probably something stupid like a bushing. dads 4t60-e was rebuilt localy, $2400, i think he was ripped off.If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

im a little confused, when a clutch is engaged there is power delivered, when its not, there isnt. still seems like a torque converter problem to me, but it might be a little more ugly, like internal clutches. torque converters are just viscous drives, there isnt a solid connetion between the crankshaft and the input shaft unless the convertor is locked, somehow. if it is locked then you have a direct connection and there wouldnt be any slippage, that would possibly account for dying in gear, and maybe even for the sluggishnes if there isnt enough slippage to allow the rpms to get into a better spot on the power band. maybe its the TCC or whatever has the job of locking the torque converter, or maybe its just the torque convertor is bad. Just my opinion, i'm not a mechanic, but sometimes im right. let me go back and underline the "sometimes"If you aren't friends with a liar, you aren't friends with anyone.

If the torque convert was stuck in the engauged postion, the car would not go BACKWARDS (it would just not want to move). If it would not engauge at all, then you would not know it.
My cars converter would not engauge, and it never had any drivability issues. At work, we had a Lumina that it would not DISengauge, and the car would NOT move when it was put into reverse.
Is your SES light coming on? If so, you can go to autozone, and they will pull the codes for free.
It could be a bad idle sensor, or TPS, or even the Map sensor.Taylor

well they got it in the shop late friday and determined that it was'nt electrical. they are putting it on the lift monday morning to drop the pan to see what he finds. He told me if its just the torque converter I'm looking at $1300 and if it needs a rebuild $2200-3300. probally more, cuz I'm gonna want good quality parts due to all my driving, and definatly nothing that will slow me down.I wish 10% of the people on the road knew how to drive

ya it sucks seeing that we just started to have money again, and the tranny gave no signs of breaking down. what really sucks is that I kinda blame my self. I bought a tranny cooler and never got a chance to put it on, cuz of the new baby. oh well thats lifeI wish 10% of the people on the road knew how to drive
