  • Need 3.4 information. New to this site.

Hi !!! New to this ......
Can someone tell the the latest year 3.4 that is rear wheel drive and where I can find one ? Can I convert (easily ) any 3.4 to a rear wheel drive and mate to a T-5 ? Want to mate it to a manual transmission for a Stalker V6 I'm going to build. Thanks in advance.

i think the 97 v6 camaro is the last year for the 3.4 rwd motor. available with a 5spd.

someone is trying a 3.4 twin dual cam (fwd dohc v6) ina camaro, but the starter is on the opposite side from a rwd so they had to find the correct bellhousing, i think they said it was from a early 80's camaro. i dont know if the 3.4rwd motor has a roller cam in it, but the 3400 fwd motor does. you could use the 3400, with custom mounts and the correct bellhousing, along with the 3.4 rwd pistons and iron heads with the edelbrock intake and a 390 4bbl carb. then you get the advantage of a hydralic roller cam.

RE: Need 3.4 information. New to this site.

3.4 was only rear wheel drive in 93-95 f bodys(iron head), a 3400 (alum. head) will bolt to a t-5, custom motor mounts can make it rwd

the 3400 is the fwd motor, i think they stopped this year with the grand am, but im not sure. i think the aztek has it and so do alot of the gm minivans. ithink if you check here:

they have a good site, somewhere they list motors and the vehicals it came in.

The 3400 is still in production and is used in many different platforms.

I read the "tree" with great interest before I posted this thread and appreciate the effort.
I noted that 1995 was the last year for the RWD. The lowest mileage engine I can find is a 1995 Camaro with 1000,000 miles on it.
I have also found a 2000 3.4 with 28K on it for $750.00. Nowing nothing about this engine, I don't know if the 2000 can be easily converted to a RWD or if I should just get the 1995 and hope for the best. They want $450.00 for the 1995 and I know it would cost more money for the rebuild than the 2000's total cost. I just have no idea how much it would cost to convert the 2000 to a RWD. Thanks in advance.

                        $750 for a 2000 is a rip-off.

Goto www.car-part.com and do a search in your area. I'm almost positive you can find something cheaper. There are ways to make the 3400 adapt to RWD.

                          Found a 1995 from a Camero with 65K miles for $1150.00 on parts.com.
If the 2000 with only 28K miles on it can be converted for $3-400.00, $750 doesn't sound too bad.
I want to put a carb on it and don't need the FI syastem but I've been building airplanes for years and just don't know much about these engines to know the best way to end up with a new, or low milage 3.4 with a carb. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If your wanting to stick a carb on it. You will want to find a 3.4L out of an Fbody. Due to you want an Iron headed motor to bolt up the carb manifold to. If you go with a 3400 style engine you will have to swap out the alum heads, the pistons (or you'll have excessive compression with Iron heads and alum headed pistons) and start from scratch.

Or shell out the $$ for GMPP's 3.4L "conversion package" engine which is nothing more than New Old Stock of 3.4L Fbody engines with a Performance cam and springs slapped in for guys with S-10's. (would work great still in a camaro) However it is a bit pricy.

Tired of that tired 2.8 V6 in your S-truck? It's time for a major upgrade, GM Performance Parts style. The HT 3.4 is a bolt in replacement for the 2.8 V6 in your 1982 - 1985 S-10 pickup or Blazer with automatic transmission. And it's emission legal in 49 states (Yes, you guessed it, California said no.) But for the rest of us, the HT 3.4 is the best thing going. With 160 horsepower and 194 Ft. Lbs. of torque your truck will feel better than new, and tow better than ever. The heads have large 1.72" intake and 1.42" exhaust valves and combustion chambers that yield a healthy 9 to 1 compression ratio. The camshaft is a high lift, short duration design, developed to produce lots of strong low end torque and mid range horsepower. With .427" intake and .454" exhaust lift, the cam ensures a strong pull to 5000 RPM. Doesn't sound like your 2.8 V6 at all does it? It isn't, when GM Performance Parts develops an engine we focus on making power. But not power for the sake of power, but power where you need it. For great drivability, towing performance and maybe even a little off road fun. The HT 3.4, a serious upgrade for your favorite little truck. With 40 more horsepower than your 2.8 V6, why would you even consider rebuilding that old 2.8? The induction system, ignition system, exhaust, emission controls, water pump and other parts required to bolt in your new HT 3.4 are already on your truck. Sounds like a weekend project or talk to your GM Performance Parts Authorized Center, they can install it for you.

Technical Notes: This is for engines with carburetors only, not released for TBI usage. This engine does not have a clutch boss on the side of the block for standard transmission application.
