  • 2.8 2bbl Carb - performance specs??

My friend has a 86 Cutlass Ciera with a 2.8 2bbl carb v6. Does anyone know the HP and torque ratings of this vehicle??

    Thanks

If is indeed a carb then here are the specs.

    Horsepower 110
    Torque 148
    Compression Ratio 8.5:1

However I didn't know carbs lasted that long on cars.

    1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper

Thanks guys, and yes it is a carbed motor, original to the car. According to this webpage, http://www.worldzone.net/auto/olds/c...era/index.html
, 1986 was the last year to have it. 1987 brought the 2.8 Gen II FI V6

EFI on the 660 appeared as early as 85. But as shown in the past not everything gets the new goodies right away. The J-Body for instance had the 3.1L until 1994 where as other cars got the 3100 as early as 1993.

It is possible it is the H.O. version of the carbed 2.8, with 135HP. You can tell by the VIN number, the 8th digit will be for the engine....X is the standard 2.8, Z is the H.O. 2.8.

'88 Fiero Formula - Bone stock for now

I'll have to check out the VIN plate on it.

                Marty,
Thats true for our X-11's but does it still hold water for the other bodies? I know the VIN Digit changes between the X and A bodies. If it is the same, then Z will be the HO motor and X will be the lo-po. If its the HO, then the ratings will be 135HP and 145tq.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

After 1980, there is a Federal standard for VIN numbers. Every GM car I have looked at used the 8th digit for engine code.

Sorry for the confusion, Marty, yea the 8th digit IS the motor. What I meant was the X bodies used X and Z to designate hi or lo po engines. The A bodies used more or less the same engines as the x but had different letters (not sure of what they are). So I am really wondering if 93luminaz34's Ciera's engine code would be same as the X (though I wouldnt think so).
