  • What bolts up here, picture, front timing cover 3100.

Went to install the front timing cover and I am not sure what bolts up in the circled holes, they stick out as if something bolts up. I was thinking ac compressor.

P.S. - Thanks to the member whos ebay picture I used.

well it depends on what application you are using.

For some things. Nothing bolts up there. On some engines Idler pullies bolt up there. On others a side mount bolts up to two of those upper large holes.

The one bolt hole you can clearly see In that specific picture that there is an idler pully that bolts up there, as it has the raised boss style for the idler pullies bearing.
I'll see if i can dig up some pics later of what i mean.

Well the bolts I have in those holes right now stick out about an inch. Any help would be great.

Thats due in part to likely stock those bolts attached a front Engine mount bracket on the front cover. hence why they are an inch larger. If you have a spare 60degreev6 engine to rob bolts from just take the needed bolts from an old front cover setup. Or go to your hardware store and buy some bolts that are the right length. they are all Metric threads. Dont forget your thread sealant on the threads for all bolts that go into the coolant passages on the front cover

I have everything that I took off the engine, I do think it was a bracket, I just need to find it. I was tearing into a junkyard 94 lumina today with a 3100 to get the bolts that hold the plastic lifter retainer in place (I lost one). I happened to look in that spot and tt had a bracket there as well. Thanks for the info. P.S. - I had put sealant on them. =)
