DOHC VS Pushrod weight

Well maybe if GM gave the friggen motor a chance it wouldn't be slain as is was put. It has the ability to perform. At least the 3500 and the 3900 are starting to show the pushrod60V6 can be capable if someone actually gave a damn, or maybe if someone wants the 3800 to be kicked out... wow we can only hope. I still think if the 3400 discarded its bite sized TB and 1mm exhaust system it might just be happy to obtain 200+ hp from 185. 3100 gains would be just as nice. But 176 lbs is also a nice gain too....or loss....or somthing.........................!!!!!!!!!!!!Lorenzo

446 LBS crate weight. At least thats what it said on the crate when I got my brand new never opened 3.4 DOHC engine.
Did I mension Its a 96 and I paid $500 for it? haha!
All in good fun.
I'd say safley its between 90-110LBS heavier then its 2nd or 3rd gen Pushrod counterpart. But with an extra 40-75 horse, it doesn't really matter.
I'll agree that the LOADED cam carriers are about 35-40 Lbs a pop. and the heads are alittle heavier then 3rd gen heads. The intakes weigh probably about the same, then there is the belt drives, probably another 10 lbs to tack on for that.

And a TDC in a Fiero is awesome for drag racing, flat 14s and perfect gears to start with, HELL YAH!
And a L67 or small block chevy are worse, a lot worse.

I doubt an L67 is worse for weight. I'm sure its not much better, if any, but I'm sure it can't weigh more than a LQ1. Maybe an L67 with auto tranny, vs LQ1 with 5 speed?

Until someone weighs all of the engines in a ready-to-run state, we will never know the exact numbers. These weight discussions come up on the Fiero forum every other day, and I have yet to see convincing data for any of it. Several people have weighed their cars before/after engine swaps, but they usually involve changing transmissions at the same time, full vs. empty gas tanks, or other changes made at the same time that affect weight significantly, but are not controlled, so the data is worthless.
I weighed my gen1 FWD MPFI top end compared to the 3400 top end, and the total weight difference was 30lbs. The intakes were within 1-2lbs, the main difference being the heads.

The 3400 aluminum heads were lighter....about 15lbs each. I don't remember the total weight of the iron heads....but I think it was something like 35lbs each, versus 20lbs for the aluminum heads.
