My friend has a Bright Red 4 door '93 Lumina Euro 3.1L Auto w/185k on it. Today he went to put the car in gear and the tranny wouldn't engage into drive (see my post about this here: http://www.60degreev6.com/index.php?...978&highlight= ). Well, he has given up on the car and just wants to sell it. He told me he would sell it to me for $500, which I think is a good deal, but i want your opinions.
Here is a little about the car:
Although it has all those miles on it, it has new brakes all the way around, (rotors and pads on all 4) new tires all the way around, the body looks very good, it has a Sony Head Unit (not sure which model, but its not a cheap one). It has some really nice 6X9's (can't remember what the brand name is, but I know they are good ones...I'm not very knowledgeable with Stereos so I don't know this stuff..something like audiobahn??). It also has red neons under the seats, under the dash, and in the vents in the dash. The interior is mint. Most of the paint is mint. It has a aftermarket air filter on it. Aftermarket fog lights. Brand new exhaust from downpipe back (with no cat). New Plugs/Wires within the last 5k. 160* Thermostat. Alternator has less than 10k on it. Has a new pressure line for the power steering that has few thousand on it. It runs like a brand new car...my friend actually thinks the engine has been replaced in the past...although I'm not so sure. All regular maintanence has been done on time. (I know because I helped him with most of it) It has new bushings/end links in the rear sway bar. The car has a lot of pep (or at least did before the tranny quit). I know that it is pretty much equal in acceleration to my other friends '94 Buick Skylark 3100 from 0-100...the cars just sit next to each other, and the skylark is lighter, and obviously the 3100 is supposed to make more power.
So, all in all, does it seem like its worth $500, especially since I have already been quoted $700 for a used tranny installed? So basically, is it worth $1200 in running condition.
I'm seriously considering buying this as an everyday driver/beater....
