  • Difference between RWD 2.8, and FWD 2.8

Ok, I am in a dellema here. I have a 2.8 fiero, and I am going to swap in a 3.4 pushrod v6 form a 94 camaro, but I want to supercharge it with a fageol supercharger. I emailed him asking what the cost would be, and he told me the kit for the S-10 2.8 wont fit the 2.8 in the fiero, he says his kit only fits RWD 2.8 v6's. BTW I am going to carb it. What is the difference between the 2.8 in the S-10, and the 2.8 in the fiero? Well, on the other hand, if it only fits RWD 60 degree v6 engines, then it should just fit right on a 3.4 camaro engine with no problems, right? I am asking here, because he takes way too long to answer his emails. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy, and I wouldn't mind doing business with him, but he just takes too long. Could someone please help me?

Yea thats what I would suspect. Because other than mounts and starter location the block and heads on first gen engines are identical. So unless he was talking about space restrictions or maybe he though Fiero's had aluminum heads like other FWD cars.

The SC and intake will physically bolt up to the 2.8/3.4 in the Fiero, but there are differences in the accessory drive belt arrangement and water outlet location. The Fageol kit will not bolt right in on the Fiero, which is why they say it is for RWD only. With some custom fabriaction, it can probably be made to work. I think there was someone over on PFF that installed a Fageol....not sure. You can be sure that with the blower and a carb, there will be a large hole in the decklid.

I can think of a couple of things:
          1. Space between engine and hood/trunk
          2. Blower is designed for a v-belt
          3. 3.4l camaro uses a serpentine belt. V-belt conversion will need older timing chain cover and water pump. What kind of belts does your Fiero use?

            1. Surprisingly , there is enough space to fit it under there. The SC is .4 inches lower than a Torker II intake, and I know a torker and a carb will fit, its been done many times.

            2. Thats what he says, but then he is using a timing belt to turn the SC, so where does the V-belt come into play.

            3. The fiero uses serpentine belts.

Another question, how hard would it be to convert to a V-belt configuration on the camaro 3.4?

Also, does anybody have pics of the front of the engines (RWD 2.8 FWD 2.8 and camaro 3.4)

You do not need V belts that is false. You can use serpentine belts.

Check with Will he has a serp setup. It would not be hard to figure our a new routing path for the belt to allow the same common belt to run the supercharger. http://614streets.com/2.8.html

A couple of things. The Fageol kit available is for vee belt s10's but is cog driven. This is actually the best route to go for effeciency of the supercharger.

To utilize the vee belt set up from an s10 one must have a clockwise rotating 2.8 water pump.

If you want the simplicity of the serpentine belt run a vortech 8 rib pulley and I gaurentee you will have the range to meet the 6 ribs aligned with little trouble. I had the fageol kit on with a vortech pully prior to adding the pop off/quick disconnect base I fabricated and It lined up just fine. Now It lines up 100% and I could run an 6 rib pulley in theory but still have an 8 rib on it.

In short all you need for a serpentine run is a vortech 8 rib ppulley of your choice, i suggest a 2.5" pulley for 8-10lbs of boost.

BTW his kits will accept a weber carb from lmc truck and it will clear the hood.

The fageol sits very low, alot of people are mistaken the height of the unit because they see mine which sits much higher do to pop off fabrication which Is not a neccesity.

The clockwise 2.8 water pumps are cheap and plentiful and come from 86 and prior s10's
