  • 3100 Rebuilding, progress news.

Well, a long time back I talked about pulling my engine and rebuilding it. I bought the car for $500 dollars and it ran fine, I thought the car might have a small coolant leak somewhere (head, lim, etc...) little water/white smoke out the exhaust, maybe it didnt. Needed an engine for my rebuild class so I took it. Anyways tour the engine apart (181k), cylinders have very little ring ridge so I can just have them honed, bearings were great, gaskets where good, line bore is straight. I will be checking the cam, crankshaft, connecting rods, and the rest on monday. This engine would have went a lot longer.

Are you gonna modify it before it goes back in? If you do anything make it a 260 Cam

Its a 3100, so he can't really do the 260 cam. I mean, there are ways around everything, but probably not in his plans.

I don't have cash for a regrind, I don't really know what there is to do to a 3100 other then ls springs and a 2000+ heads.

Woops never mind. Well if it is a 3100 then leave the cam. They are not that bad stock anyways.

              Clevite bearings???

Well I am picking up my parts: I already have clevite rod bearings, gasket kit, new head bolts, timing set, and clevite main bearings. I am picking up my clevite cam bearings and water pump tomorrow. Has anyone had experiance with clevite bearings? I think I have the original style they are marked cp on each bearing. This is going to be a stock rebuild, will I have any problems with these bearings? Thanks.

I am in the process of a 3100 top end change and I spoke with Comp and they suggested 207/214 for the regrind and it was going to be $125 and I'll have it back in a week.My 3100 is out of a 95 monte and the top end is a 2002 malibu.
