  • couple of questions for about a 90 grand prix

my wife just got a 90 grand prix with a 3.1
well i noticed that the oil pressure gauge is always up as far as it will go
and i got a code 43 from the ecm which is the knock sensor circut

ok well here are my qustions wtf is up with the oil gauge? bad sensor

and about the code 43 my brother has a 92 lumina with a 3.1 (practically the same car) and he also is getting a code 43
now i am wondering if this is something that is common in early 90s W body GM cars and if so does anyone know what exactly the problem is that occur im trying to not have to go through the diagnosis proceedure with the digital muti meter cause its kinda long

The oil pressure gauge is normal. The sending unit probably bad. I think the replacement is like $20-25. It could be the dash also, but I'm thinking the sending unit. Personally I wouldn't worry about it, however it wouldn't be a bad idea to fix it so you know the right oil pressure.

From what I know, the code 43 isn't a normal problem. I would check the wires to the knock sensor and make sure they aren't shorting, and obviously make sure its plugged in. The knock sensor is not a good thing to have not working...luckily you don't have a boosted engine or you would be in trouble.

Replace the sender or make sure the plug is on the sender. A pegged guage means an open circuit. Check the KS that it is plugged in if it is replace it because it has failed.

Pegged high could also mean the wrong sender. There are 2 different senders, one for an idiot light and the other for a guage. If you get the idiot light sender for use with a guage, it will peg the guage high. Easiest way to check: the idiot light one is very short, whereas the guage sender is quite long (over 2").

It is on the bottom of the engine, it should be directly above the oil filter...or at least it was on mine.
