  • Aluminum rockers

Merry Christmas everyone, just a quick question.Do small block chevy aluminum roller tip rockers fit 3.1lt? Comp Cams #1700-16????

  • #2
    You mean 17001-16?

    The short answer is no.

the longer answer is you can order it in a -12 (17001-12) for only 12 rockers, saving some money and shelf space, but would would also need conversion studs, that have the metric thread for the head and the proper imperial thread for the rocker and lock nut. ARP used to sell the conversion studs, but I don't know if they still do.

Also you will likely need taller rocker covers for these as well.

Also which version of the 3.1 is it that you're referring to? There are at least 4 variations in 3 generations of the 60 degree V6 3.1.

      This engine is a 1991 3.1lt out of a Corsica.I have 1994 3100 heads that I am using.

Do you also have the matching intake? The gen2 3.1 intake from the Corsica will not match up with the ports in the gen3 3100 heads.

What I said still applies, and the rocker covers will likely need to be custom or modified units, since there are no off-the-shelf aftermarket rocker covers for gen2 or gen3 60 degree v6s.

I have 3400 upper and lower intakes.I was going to use Crane Cams' Gold Race rockers that were designed for the 60* v6. But they are no longer available.

I don't understand why you would want to use the 17001's anyways, the are 1.5 ratio... Stock 3100 rockers are 1.6 ratio so you would be shrinking your cam's potential.

Use newer 3400 heads with the fulcrum rockers, they can take a beating.

I'd ditch those small port 3100 heads.. you can sell the 1.6 rockers to a Gen 2 guy though, they are a cheap upgrade for the older heads.

I have lost one of the valve stem locks and two different parts stores have sent the wrong ones.Anybody with the correct part #? I believe it has 7* taper angle and 8mm valve stem diameter.
GM parts Direct for a 1994 Beretta 3100. Gm part# 10166345. Is this correct?

The engine in your Firebird is a gen1 engine, and very different from a gen2.

However, you can swap the EARLY 3100 stamped rockers onto your gen1, for a slight ratio increase. Check wipe pattern to make sure you don't need a different length pushrod.
