howdy maybe this is the wrong motor to do this with but here it goes,, picked up a I believe 1987 (how can I tell) 2.8 I want to put it in a 1964 chevy van....... I wanna change to v belts and carb can this be done, can I use the same dist? also can I take off tpi and make a adaptor for a carb in its place thanks ahead of time

Yes, it can be done. I recently had a freshly rebuilt 2.8 with a Mallory distributor & Edelbrock manifold with a Holley, that was installed in my '53 Healey. It was never fully finished, and after reading the forums, I was corrupted enough by these guys to yank it out and install a 3.5L LX9. I sold the dist., manifold & carb a few months ago, but you should still be able to pick up all those pieces new, although they were a bit pricy.

You can do all of that...
You would be best finding a carb intake. The EFI dizzy could be used, but you would get no advance with it, unless you added something like a MegaJolt or retained an ECM.
You would have to swap the entire front accessories, including the timing cover and the oil pan to match the timing cover. I personally like serpentine so much I've swapped into a few vehicles of mine now. It's far more reliable than any V-belt set-up I have ever used.
