Not the forged crank right? I remember 7484 being the magic number correct?

Pooie crap stick... I have another yard checking out a 27k mile engine on Monday

I still picked up that other motor, 200 bux with 40k so there are still other good parts

So... How do you explain this?

Does anyone have ANY photos or known numbers that were on a cast 3500 crank?

I will pull the pan quickly tomorrow to see the parting line on my crank, if it's wide and not sharp I'm going to assume the crank is in fact forged.

idk, but i do know there was about a 7lbs difference between them. Forged being heavier.

There were pics somewhere on here of the cast VS the forged cranks.. it's been several years though so they might not be around anymore.

Here are pics of the parting lines on the 5922 crank in my engine.

I will be pulling it this week and doing a tone test against a stock 3400 crank.

I wouldn't write off the engine just because it doesn't have the forged crank. The cast one is still plenty strong.

I went through all of my pics, none of the ones of my 7484 crank show the parting lines. I know that when I took the first one in to be repaired the shop said it was forged for sure.

Both of the ones I had were 7484's so I didn't have anything to compare to.

Seeing how I can't find any concrete info on the cast crank vs the forged... then I can only assume this is just something that is not documented enough to prove either party 100% correct.

Only thing I can find is this.. and I'm guessing at the end of the thread the weights are 49lbs for steel and 45lbs for cast, and as he noted that's shipping weights not physical in hand weights. But this is all I've found.

That was from an 06 motor and mine is an 04, that DEFINITELY appears to be a cast part since the parting line is ground down just like on a 3.1L 3100 3400 crank so it's visually different and very obvious. I'm thinking there are more forged versions out there with different numbers stamped on them and we just assumed the 7484 was the only one. That cast appearing version also only has the long number stamped on it.. Mine has two numbers and they appear to be etched not stamped. Also looking my crank over every number on it is intended/stamped into it, On cast cranks they are raised letters... I'm only guessing this is from one having the numbers physically stamped during forging process where the cast version has the numbers stamped into the casting which results in raised lettering on the finished part.

Unless someone can prove otherwise I'm going to run with this setup under the assumption that it is also a forged crank.

I think that the 5922 may be forged

                          Looks a lot like a 7484

try looks exactly like... lol That's why I'm running with it and ignoring all the hearsay that the 7484 is the only foged version. I'm thinking any crank with a 4 digit number on it is forged... All the cast versions I've see don't have those 4 digit numbers.
