  • What are you doing for a throttle cable? I am fixing to start the hunt for mine and that looks to use the same kind of end...just a lead sphere on the end of the cable.

I will need one that has a sheath approximately 25" long, yours looks like it may need to be the same length or longer?

I have no idea yet. That's a problem for a future date. lol!

          • Oxygen sensor question:

I'm obviously not running a catalytic converter, and I believe that originally, there was an O2 sensor before & after it. How do I address this now?
Can I only run one O2 sensor, welded into my header at the collection point? I believe that I'll be running a dual exhaust, without a crossover. Any potential issues with that?
Will I have any issues with "codes" being thrown, and would this put it into a "limp" mode or affect how it runs?

Thanks guys! It's time to get this thing running!

            • OBDI ECMs only use a single O2 sensor

              • What ECM are you using?

As caffeine said, OBD1 ECMs only use pre-cat O2 sensors.

Caffeine sold it to me, so I'm guessing it's a OBDI, as he says. lol!

                  It's a 7727 with a chip for an LX9 with a 'street/strip turbo cam' running N/A w/28# injectors. I haven't done a thing with it yet, but I'll be tackling it soon.

One thing he didn't have (and I apparently need) is a "chip adaptor". What am I looking for, and where do I get it? Any good threads or explanations on how this thing works? Or better yet, are any of you willing to move to Chicago for a few weeks & come over to give me a hand? lol!

And for the O2 sensor, if I go to Autozone or some other shop and order an O2 sensor for a 2006 Pontiac, am I going to get the correct part for my project? I need to get the receiver for it also, so I can have it welded into my header's collector before I send it off to be coated. I'm guessing that any exhaust specialty store should have those, right?

                  • Moates.net for the MEMCAL adapter. It's a G1 adapter.

Yes, that O2 sensor will work, along with many other applications. I often use "1998 Malibu" for the NBO2 sensor, since I know it's a heated type and works.

                      • Thanks guys! I just ordered the adaptor from Moates and will get a stock O2 sensor.
With any luck, this thing might run someday.

                        • Fuel injectors:

It seems the trailblazer 28# injectors are highly recommended for this swap (and also my chip seems to be set up for them). It looks like there's a different length to the Trailblazer injector than the stock 3400 injectors. Will my 3400 fuel rail still fit beneath the LX9 UIM with the Blazer 28# injectors? What about the wiring harness... are the connections compatible?

Finally, what year Trailblazer 4.2L should I be looking at, or does it make a difference?

                          • I'm pretty sure the Trailblazer injectors are the same physical size. Mine bolted in to the LX9 just fine (with a 3400 rail). I did have to do some cutting on the fuel rail to rotate the fuel pressure regulator. But that has to do with the intake and the regulator not the injectors. I had to swap injectors plugs anyway but I thought they were compatible with the 3400 injectors. I think there were only a couple years for the Trailblazer and that engine but it was awhile ago when I looked.

                            • Trailblazer's are Multec 2 style plugs so yes you'll have to splice on the Multec 2 plugs vs the bosch/EV1 style plug that comes on most of the 3x00 harnesses. Not sure what you started with though. Regarding size as neophile said they are the same physical size as the 3100 and 3400 injectors, height wise body they are narrower but they fit fine. The 3500 lower intake may require you to mod the cross brackets because the different 3500 injectors resulted in the rail mounting studs being about 1/8" shorter. I just used some washers to take up the space instead and it works fine.

You could also buy these if you don't like to mess with stock harness plugs, and have the room under there.
