Is the 2.8l really what I want?

  • I don't know why you're making some of this more difficult than it needs to be.

    As I said the stock pilot bushing from a RWD T5 equipped vehicle (S10, Camaro) would have worked.

    The starter should just bolt right on, unless you're using the RWD flywheel, then a 14mm spacer is needed to fit right, with still no modifications to the starter (or block).

      We probably are. That's my talent. lol!

      Our local parts store didn't have a bushing that fit, and it literally took 5 minutes to fabricate that one. No big deal.

      The starter was a different issue, and yes, I used the old 2.8l RWD flywheel. When we fit it all together, we sure couldn't figure out a way to make all the teeth mesh properly, nor would the starter bolt to the block. Moving the starter slightly seemed fairly easy, and it didn't take too long. Water under the bridge now, as everything is going to work.

      (Note to anyone doing this in the future: go the easier way, as Raven suggested. If your starter goes out on the side of the road somewhere, you want to slap a new one on without a trip to the Bridgeport)

      • I'm looking for an external fuel pump. 55psi seems to be the pressure I want, but what about the gph rating? What are you guys using?



        Also, just ordered some very trick billet exhaust hangers for my 2" pipe (which is not as easy to find as you'd expect) from Deeds Engineering. www.deedsengineering.com
        Once the engine is in, then the exhaust will be the next project. I'm ordering an O2 sensor and will get a bung welded into the exhaust... probably into the header. At least this portion of the project should turn out to look VERY slick and professional!

        • Anything similar to a Walbro 255LPH pump would suffice... That's what I'm running and I believe it is still more than sufficient for what I am doing.

          I have the GSS340 I was running before and I just put back in my F20000169 for this year to see how that will work since it uses the stock pickup and bucket and such. They have listings for External Walbro pumps that you could probably use.

            • Testing to make sure the hood closes.

              We measured the pinion output on the rear end & are able to adjust the engine/trans to 1%, so there is even more clearance than this photo shows. The only issue will be at the front, where the intake and radiator are a little too close for a nice, smooth bending intake snorkle. But I believe we have a good solution to that, and will try to get something fabricated after the engine & radiator mounts are finished.

              • When you look at the larger photo it seems like there is a ton of room! Again it's so clean it's sick. You are not going to spend much on hand cleaner when your done.

                  lol! Thanks, but I've already spent my allowance on hand cleaner getting everything to this point.


                  I'm looking for this little clip that goes on the back of the fuel pressure regulator. If anyone has a spare, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. GM doesn't have them anymore, and it would be much easier to get one than to fabricate something that works.

                  • They are not very difficult to fabricate. Just a flat plate with a hole and a nut, or tapped hole, and it's good.

                    If you can't find one locally, let me know. I have a few I think, if not I have a couple wreckers near by that should have plenty.

                      • Ordered & installed an electric fan today, and we had to raise the motor a bit so the intake would clear everything. That was an issue I didn't anticipate, but it was easily resolved.

                        We also found some elbows and stainless tubing to route the air intake around the radiator & to the front of the car. I believe it will actually look & work very well! Th e list of things that need to be done before we can start it is still long, but we're slowly crossing things off! Hopefully, I'll have a running motor within a month (...yeah, I know. I work slow)

                            • Looks like two 90's is the only way. Really four 45's will flow much better. Boost doesn't care about 90's, NA does. The pressure waves crash into the sides leading to a weaker "signal". This intake should be a bit more on the quiet side though.

                                Boost cares about bends too. I think for what the OP is doing though, his setup will work fine.
