    • Absolutely! I'm pretty sure that I can use the oil filter in that position. Doesn't seem like anything will be in the way on the car.

      • Taking advantage of temperatures above freezing today.

        Old boat anchor is out....

yeah, I made the right decision here!

        • It's been so long since I've had this apart, that I forgot what I had inside. Brand new pressure plate & clutch.

and here's the trans & bellhousing. I need to clean this up a little before using it.

So this is usable? It would be nice if SOME parts from the old 2.8L could be reused.

            • You'll have to look at the back side

              • Take the flywheel off and flip it over. If you see extra material "pads" cast into the back side it's an early unbalanced flywheel. I've read about people machining them off but I would never try it myself. Awesome build!

                • I am using a flywheel from a 1984 2.8L on my 3.4L hybrid. Took the flywheel to a shop, had the weight removed and neutral balanced. About $35.00 out the door. It's not an issue.

                  • Yeah if you bring the flywheel somewhere that balances stuff they can neutral balance it which is no different than just buying a new neutral balanced one... Just quite possibly way cheaper.

                    • OK I wasn't as clear as I should've been. If the balance was verified to be neutral I would run it. Simply milling or grinding off the pads and hoping for the best is not a path I would take even if it's worked for others.

Is there a slicker bellhousing that could be used, or should I just pick up one of those dual-pockets & shave off the external mount, as Caffeine did.

What about this Camaro bellhousing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/380901977849...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

So what do you think about this? It has no wear on the teeth, just the rust issues and that cast weight. I can throw the thing in the glassbead cabinet and clean up this side
