  • Rear cam plug

I got a motor back from the machine shop and they changed out the freeze plugs and unfortunately tossed the old ones including the rear cam plug.

SO what are you guys using as a replacement? GM doesn't list anything on Parts direct and the number of the part on a exploded view on Nalley GMC isn't identified either.

This motor is using an aftermarket cam so I believe I do not need the bump in the plug as OEM has since the back of the cam will be flat and not have the hollow core protruding through the last journal.

The bearing OD size as noted on the Clevite catalog is around 2.0090/2.0110... So I need a plug that size for the rear of the engine, any suggestions?

I have a 3500 and 3100 block here but I would rather not steal those unless that's my last resort.

iirc the 3500 one is different than the older ones. I had to get one after changing my cam bearings. IIRC i got it from gm parts direct. It's been a long time though, lol

Now that I think about it, I went to a local dealership's parts counter to get it.

Just got the pn from my dealership. I'm going to measure it too so we have this info later in life. I think a universal 2 1/64 or 51.1mm should work or the 2 3/64, 52mm should.

Little larger than I expected. The plug is listed as a 2.107" diameter plug so if in a pinch a universal 2 7/64" plug would work in it's place.

PN is 10241154 I picked up 2 off of ebay.

Was the engine you are seeking this part for a lx9?

Sorry never answered that, No it's a 3400. I have a LX9 block sitting on my shelving unit with the plug in it And a 3100 too but I don't want to pull that engine apart, it's my "numbers matching" engine to the pink car... LOL like that would ever matter.

There is supposed to be a number on the ear right above where the starter mounts, there is a flat spot there where the paint is removed. It's VERY hard to read but someone pointed it out to me before. I know they do it on my Subaru and that was really easy to find.

Thank you Larry, that answers my question on which one would fit, that is a 2 3/32 plug but you need to remember that will only work on engines that have an aftermarket cam, not a standard rebuild re-using the factory hollow cam.
