  • timing chain

Just removed the timing cover on my 02 3100, chain is stretched pretty bad, I just installed new chain and factory gears about 8 months ago, not to many miles. the area inside the cover was pretty dry , not much oil, does anyone know how the chain is oiled on a 3100 . I was thinking of drilling a small hole in each plug in the lifter gallery behind the cam gear like the big block, anybody try that, and if so what was the result. thanks

The oil that gets squished out the side of the last cam bearing is slung onto the chain by the cam gear. More oil might help, but the 2000+ chain is just tiny compared to the older stuff.

      Ray,

Your chain stretch issue is no big surprise. Your next chain might benefit from sending it out to WOT-Tech.com for some treatment.

Thank for the replys, I think I'm going to drill a small hole , about 0.30 in each one of the plugs in the lifter gallery or the pulg under the cam,. I done that to my big block which solved the problem on that engine. I got a email into ben, I'm going to wait and see what he saids first.

My 98 s-10 2.2 has a hole in the plug under the cam to oil the chain, starting in 98 the hole is bigger than in the earlier trucks.
