  • LT1 Lifter Parts in LX9 Lifter Bodies

    It might be useless to most, but if anyone that is currently undergoing or has taken pictures of using LT1 lifter internals in a LX9 lifter case, post them up!

    Everytime I remember to take pictures its when my hands are no clean or the lifters are all assembled already. LOL

    Consider this a community write up thread for this mod.

    I used to have pictures, and even a video of the process. I'll check my old PC and see if they are still there.

      I found the video but the quality is terrible after compression. I'll see if i can find the raw footage and make it a little better today.

            I used LS7 lifter guts, but the procedure should be identical.

            check ball and check ball spring retainer left side has the retainer removed.



            Check ball springs are also tighter than stock.



            I would just use the whole "LS7" lifter, but they are taller (this is a pic of just the piston, stock on the right, "LS7" on left.

            then the lifter body slides over the piston and spring



            and now we have the whole assembly upside down.

            this thin disc then gets placed in the piston.

            then the pushrod socket.

            that is the piston retainer, it fits into a groove cut into the top of the main body.



            Push the piston down in there, slide in the retainer, and then you are done!



            should hopefully be good to 8000 RPMS

              has there been thought to use the ls7 lifter with shorter pushrods?

                the V8 lifters pop out of the block too far, the indent for the oil inlet goes above the lifter bore so you'd never get any oil pressure into the lifters. I know i have pictures of that, I'll have to find them later.

                I thought about using the "piston" from the LT1 lifters and making mine solid or even limiting their movement but it just never seemed worth the effort/risk.

                  from what I remember when I did my lifters, the LS7 piston was a little bit too big and would have to have been turned down to work. I figured I would just make a piston if I wanted to go solid.

                    the LT1 piston fit ok other than being way too tall.


                    here is the whole LT1 lifter in a 3500 block at peak lift on the stock cam.

                      I curious as to why gm didn't use the smaller lifters on the V8's too, esp the performance ones, less valvetrain mass=less valvespring=easier on components.
