    hey everyone
2000 alero, 3.4 liter motor had 180000 and blew a head gasket, got a motor from a 03 grand am said 100 percent bolt up, changed head gasket and ever other gasket on the way up still overheating, my question is on the new motor the evap system is not the dual lines coming off each side of the motor like the original alero so that is not hooked up. car runs fine but is still overheating could the evap not being operational do this or do i need to look elsewhere? added a picture with it circled so you could see what i was talking about.
thanks guys Click image for larger version

T stat sticking? Are the rad fans coming on when supposed to? What is the over temp indicator? Guage or light? Was it the same in the donar car?
Had an issue with my old Lumina after a swap, thought the motor was overheating, turned out to be the wrong temp sending unit was installed. Donor car had
a guage, the lumina had a light. It was getting a false reading and turning on the temp light. Changed the sensor and all was well.

tstat replaced. rad fans come on, the over temp indicator is a gauge and was the same in the donor car. im wondering if it is maybe the reservoir? im thinking maybe the cap is not allowing it to pressurize correctly and getting air pockets and thus overheating idk running out of ideas

Evap system will not hinder the cooling system.

Have you kept an eye on the coolant level as the system self purges? Any time I open a cooling system I recommend to the owner to keep an eye on the coolant level and check it every day before start-up since it will purge air over time.

Have you checked the water pump? How does the inside of the radiator look? Is the upper hose pressurising as the car warms up?

problem solved the main issue was the overflow tank cap was messed up and not allowing it to pressurize the system, after a new cap and burping the system everything seems to be working fine. thanks for your input guys
