    Hey guys,

I've been out of things for almost a year now but I tore down the 3500 (LX9) that I bought a year ago and found the number 4 piston as you see it below.

Is this OK to re-use? None of the other pistons have worn through the coating so I'm guessing no. Your opinions are appreciated.

That is very common for that to happen. I tore down a 60,000 engine and the number 4 looked worse than yours does. I would use it again, a new one will look just like it in a few thousand miles. I would measure the bore, but my guess is that it is just fine. Larry

All the mid to high mile gen 3's i've torn down were like that. The last time i had the pistons out of my 3500 they were pretty similar as well.

I would measure and check it against spec as well, then go from there.

Then again with as many people have bought 3500s for the top end maybe someone has one sitting around they would let go cheap.

I think i have some around, probably a total of 11 or 12 3500 pistons on rods still.

          OP, want a set?

That's a lot better news than I was expecting.

Superdave- I certainly appreciate the offer but if what I have looks normal I'll stick with it.

            Thanks everyone.
