Our 01' venture with 230k miles gets 25 MPG at 70 MPH. I never really checked for around town mileage. The 3400's seem good with fuel, I figure the 3500 would be also.

I seriously thought of it LSX motor but they strike me as expensive to get parts for and I would have to fab up some bracket to use the existing AC compressor where as I can acquire reserpine brackets of a RWD 660 camaro/firbird and utilize all my stock accessories.
There are plenty of untouched LSx's motors in our friendly neighborhood junkyard. $300 dollars out the door with computer and harness(minus accessories). Nobody pulls them, they get recycled
I'm not too familiar with gm's ecu's, I left the chevy dealer in '03, how tune-able is this ecm and how much does tuning equipment cost?
yeah if your trailblazing like this I agree, get it running first, but keep it in mind when re-engineering, and I like to make things so its easy to pull the assembly if needed, like mounting/wiring the pcm so the engine can be removed with the harness. every man needs a welder, get it back lol
I have already embarrassed quite a few drivers on the road, tunning takes some reading, time and a wide band, give it try, you sound well qualified.
you cant beat a diesel, look into an ALH from a vw, mine has over 300ftlbs after a reflash and injectors, I pulled my buds caravan from a busy street when it broke down with it and floored it, he said it put him back in his seat, I felt like i was towing an anchor but easily merged with traffic lol
I'm understanding the 7730 ECM from the late 80's early 90's? I don't know much about the later ECMs the OBD2 and later. I do know the 411 ECM used with the LS motors are excellent but haven't a clue on how to the tune them.
I actually looked into an ALH because they can reach 350 ft-lbs of torque with minimal mods. My 305 was a factory 255 torque and still manage to pull our 26 ft travel trailer.
However, diesel is at $4.20 a gallon where I'm at and gas is $3.49 so that kinda throws a wrench in it.

Mine is more awesome with alloy wheels and roof rack spars...

I am going to be starting almost the same swap as you are thinking of soon in a 1993 c1500. It has a 350 tbi, 4l60e, 3.73 gear... going to use obd II because I have the stuff to tune it already. I am planing on keeping the 4l60e that is in it by using the same adaptor that mars used
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Chevy-...ates,3280.html just have a few more parts to collect before I start the swap!1999 Olds Alero 2.4 to 3500 swap (running). totaled by a honda

Can any OBDII 60* PCMs control a 4L60E? Your best bet for simplicity is probably the 93-95 F-body 3.4 which is SFI capable and was available with a 4L60E. There is now cheap tuning support for it as well.'89 Firebird, 3500 Turbo, T56, 9-bolt/4.11
'86 Fiero, 3500, 4-speed
