I have a 3500 attached to a getrag 5 speed. I had just assembled the two on the cradle and the next day found the part in the picture above in a drawer. Uh-oh. I know I didn't put one of those on the 3500, but I'm not even sure it was supposed to get it.

When I took out the old 2.8 engine I left the clutch on it and sold it as is. The last time I disassembled a clutch setup on a similar engine was 5 years ago, so I haven't seen one go together recently.

I did follow all the torque specs for the clutch and flywheel and it all seemed fine. I had the centering tool for the clutch and everything. It all seemed ok.

So... this part goes between the flywheel and the bolts that bolt down the flywheel, like a washer for all of the bolts, right?

How big of a deal that it is not installed?

You shouldn't need one unless your flywheel's been resurfaced and even then I don't think it's necessary. It's a flywheel shim. IIRC the stock 3500 flex plate has one behind it.

That's only the flat washer that goes on the face of the flex plate anyways not behind it, it doesn't space it off the crank.

You can see the darker ring on the center of the flexplate in this photo.
