  • 3100 Lumina, wanting to swap.

I know before I even begin there are many threads, etc on what to do, how to do. BUT I've been over and over in my head going to a 3400, perhaps L67, even to a Northstar swap, however, I drove a new 3.6L Impala and loved the amount of power it produces. I have always longed for a manual transmission, then this morning I realized. The G6 GT Sport Package has a 3900 V6 with the F40 6-speed manual. Will the 3900 fit? What all would I need to make this bad boy a stick? I know this seems crazy, but this car has been a complete rebuild from day 1. It was my grandmas and I'm making it all it should have been. I'm contemplated a 5300 FWD but, thats too much for me to take on. Any suggestions? I say if I'm gonna do it, go the extra mile. Issue im with is mine is a 95 and has OBD 1. Maybe 1.5 I don't know. I work for a Toyota dealer with cheap links in with the GM dealer next door, so..parts are available and I have access to making shit. So. please help me here, anyone ever considered a swap of this magnitude?

I've already gone in and bought new springs and struts, (KYB GR2) and if a torque happy engine mod is done, I'll do the BMR Fabrication full control, lateral, and trailing arms, along with STB's, and Addco sway's. I wouldn't mind changing rear drums to rear disc off a newer Z34 or an LTZ.

I say keep it easy and go with the LA1(3400) or LX9(3500). Both bolt up to the F40 if you so chose to go that route... N/A you can get good power out of them at a price that will make you wonder about turbo charging it. In which case the bottom end on the LA1 and LX9 will hold a well tuned 350-400 hp if you are concerned about that.

young gun, thanks for the input. I have considered a 3500 considering (I have read) that the 3500 is a direct fit into a 95-99 W-Body Chevy. I just love stick sedans and want to make this fun and fast. Lots of sentiment here, and want to make it right. Boost would be a great option. I put a new 3100 in it already due to camshaft failure..should have swapped then. Wonder what kind of costs im looking at? guess I'll research! Hanging clutch pedal will be sucky too.

I did some looking and Milzy Motorsports makes a swap kit for $900 to do this. Includes all necessary hardware to make t fit. They don't however offer the F40 for a W-body, N-body only. Wonder what all I'll need to make this work? Does LX9 have similar harness to a LA1? I know the block is pretty much same so it should bolt into car. I just want the most economical way to do this. MMS is nice but well overpriced. (IMO)

Yes LX9 has same harness But I would use a 3400 injector rail The 3500 is returnless While the 3400 (LA1) has the same as the 3100
