  • What 4-speed with my 3.4 Jeep Cherokee?

I have a 3.4l in my '84 Cherokee, what transmission would go good with it? I currently have a 5-speed standard and wish to change it to a 4-speed auto. The tranny needs to have a transfer-case as well.

    Cheers,

What about an aw4 (the stuff used on standard 4.0 Cherokees?). A rebuilt 700r4 (from 93) is $1200.00 and then I have to make damn sure my tv cable is positioned astronomically correct. What about just an old 350th, I know it's 3 speed but they're only $150.00 at the wreckers.

Get a used 700R4 From an S-10. It came 4WD and uses the same T-Case as the Jeep. It is very easy to set up the TV cable on the 700R4 you just need to follow the instructions. The 350 is all right but is has no OD and no lockup converter the 700R4 also has a lower first gear which is great for 4X4.

A 700r4 won't need a wiring harness, except to actuate the lockup clutch - perhaps.
            Later electronic models will.
I don't imagine a th350 was ever made with the proper bell housing.

So I must as well forget anything past 1993. That's twenty years old, ouch. Where am I going to find a good used 1993 700r4?

              Cheers,

92 was the last official year. You can shop S-10's with a 2.8L or Camaros with a 2.8L/3.1L. I would not worry about age. Just worry about mileage when shopping in the junk yard. I believe Syndicated is right you wont find a TH350 that will bolt up. You will only find a TH200 which is weak and really old.

The only electronic part you will need is for the lockup. You can make a manual switch or use many of the self contained lockup control units out there.http://www.tciauto.com/tc/200-4r-700...iring-kit.html
